In part two of our Wave Makers series we spotlight industry leaders Jessica and Davin Waite.

Not only are they growing several successful restaurant concepts, but they are also changing the world for the better while doing so. Jessica and Davin initially found success at their edgy sushi spot Wrench & Rodent (San Diego Magazine repeatedly names it best in the county), where Davin teaches everyone how to utilize the whole fish for maximum deliciousness and minimum guilt.

NWC first helped them land the mothership location for The Plot, Jessica’s passion project of crave-able vegan cuisine that strives for ZERO WASTE. The Plot recently inked a lease for location #2, and will soon be joining the lineup at The Camp project in Costa Mesa.

Davin is also the chef behind Shootz, which dishes out some of the tastiest fish tacos in San Diego. Both Shootz and the Plot will be headed to Carlsbad village later this year, establishing a mini creative compound in conjunction with Revolution Roasters

Rounding out their busy year, Davin and Jessica also scored the landmark location at the end of the Oceanside Pier and will be transforming the landmark Ruby’s Diner to a new seafood spot.

We absolutely love working with visionaries like the Waite’s, and it doesn’t hurt that they are incredibly nice and humble to boot.

NOW OPEN /// One of the best sites in all of San Diego still came with challenges, namely the difficulty in placing new alcohol licenses on Garnet Ave in Pacific Beach.

There was no shortage of interest from national fast-casual chains, but we admire the property owner’s intentions to keep Pacific Beach as unique as possible. The owner didn’t want this impactful corner to have a concept that can be found in every city on the West Coast.

Scott Slater’s inside-out food hall was a creative, fun solution. The property owner also liked his commitment to using local top-notch architecture firm GTC Design . GTC really made the space pop, and now this corner helps to elevate the surrounding neighborhood as a whole.

Pacific Beach is on the rise, and this pocket is going to look much better in 12 months when our other recent deals complete their construction process.

We are pleased to announce the closing of 3707 5th Avenue, formerly occupied by Busalacchi’s Modo Mio restaurant. Swami’s Cafe acquired this 3,414 SF corner restaurant property in Hillcrest. We are thrilled to announce the expansion of San Diego based Rockin’ Baja Lobster who has leased 8,500 SF of retail space at Mira Mesa Shopping Center West. While expected to debut in early 2017, Mira Mesa marks the opening of their 5th restaurant in the company between San Diego and Orange County. Originally founded in 1985, Rockin’ Baja Lobster is known for bringing traditional Puerto Nuevo style lobster dinners to this side of the border. Paul Ahern represented the tenant in this transaction, and John Jennings of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank represented the landlord.
